Summary

As illustrated on a surgical stapler cartridge, this technology provides a thickness compensation variable pressure construct in an absorbable adjunct.

Description

1. Absorbable (vicryl or like) material braided into stent like compressive tube as illustrated.

2. The compressive tube is held in a state 1 of diameter D1 by a retention ring of the braided fiber material that prevents radial expansion.

a. Alternative embodiment could be a suture like material that wraps longitudinally around the tube.

b. Alternative embodiment could be a suture like material that wraps radially around the tube.

3. When the retention ring is cut by the knife the stent-like tube expands to a state 2 with a larger diameter D2 as illustrated.

4. D2 is greater than D1 progressing tube by tube as knife translates from a position 1 proximal to a position 2 distal. The knife progressively affects the retention ring release of tubes.

5. D2 amount of expansion of diameter affects the compression of tissue that is within the formed shape of a staple.


6. D2 expands variably to balance the force of tissue compressed in the staple.
