Abstract

This invention provides a method to deliver constantly updated tip information to mobile application users. The tips presented to users are based on feedback from all users of the mobile application. They are customized for users according to their learning progress. The tips presented to users are dynamically generated from a constantly updated tip list, which is based on feedback from all users of the mobile application. Furthermore, the tips reflect a user's familiarity with the application by excluding the tips that the user already knew. Threrefore, only the most helpful tips are presented to you on the limited mobile screen. The cloud-based tip repository also saves storage space for mobile device.

Mobile devices are becoming more and more popular in our daily life and work. While the major functions of a mobile application are normally easy to locate, finding and learning advanced features takes long time and even forever if no one tells the user how to do it.

In today's mobile application, very limited help information is provided for users. The help information provided and the presenting priority of such information has always been determined by the application developers, not the users. This causes two problems:

The help information provided primarily is not necessarily the information that the users need.


The help information provided is static.

The consequence might be that the users are not able to get proper help needed, or the new features or functions are not revealed to the users at the right time.

This invention provides a method to deliver dynamic tip information to individual mobile application users. The dynamic tips described in this invention are generated from a cloud-based and constantly updated user tip repository, in which all users' feedback are collected to dynamically prioritize all the predefined tips. The tips that a user have learnt are also accumulated in the tip repository. Therefore, the tips delivered to a user include the top ranking tips for certain context, but exclude those tips that this user has already learnt.

To support the method of providing constantly updated tips based on user feedback and learning progress, the following key attributes are defined for each tip in the repository: tip_id: The ID of a tip, for identifying context-sensitive tip information and for recording the tips have been learnt.

tip_priority: The priority of a tip, for prioritizing the tips in the repository. The higher the value of tip_priority is, the higher the tip is rated in the repository list.
