Abstract

Why produce the water if we can re-inject it. What about if ICD & two ESP (oil production & water injection) are installed in a long rat hole (natural water/gas separation) for some kind of dumpflood application. Two wells like this in parallel in a reservoir can assist to improve the sweep efficiency, the water produced in one well will assist to improve the oil displacement in the other well. Instead to lift the water (and paid for this - bigger pumps) and re inject it (other pump for injection), keep everything at downhole. This is not a new concept in the market, the new concept is integrated it with ICD and dump flood. Autonomous ICD Technology provides additional pressure drop through the completion as function of the Reynolds Number. The highest the Re the highest the pressure drop. It means, that once the water hit one autonomous ICD joint the pressure drop increases allowing more oil from other ICD joints. Once the water is inside the wellbore it is possible to re-inject or produce it. This proposal suggest the use of some kind of dump flood technology to re-inject water in a lower zone or reservoir. If several water injectors and producers well are used, as the matrix event technique, then will be promoted some kind of water recirculation at the reservoir level to improve the oil sweep efficiency.
