Description:

Statement of the problem:  The development of a system using a semi-conductor light source such as an ultra violet LED to disinfect liquids as the liquid flows through pipes and plumbing fixtures ( such as faucets, shower heads, systems that deliver water for treatment, etc. ) requires  a control system to maintain safe and effective operation.

Description and operation:  In order to maintain the high level of safety and effectiveness that is required in applications for medical and dental treatments, it is necessary to have a control system capable of monitoring operation with outputs to discontinue operation and make the operator aware that device is not operating and to insure the proper operations of the device within defined parameters.

A control, with or without a microprocessor or microcontroller, for the UV treatment system will monitor operation by sensing water and/ or current and/ or voltage and/ or temperature and/ or air flow and/ or liquid flow. It will have the ability to detect when the unit is operating properly and shut down operation and make user aware if module is not functioning properly or if the unit has been tampered with. The UV treatment system requires that the liquid pass through a conduit or pipe that is fitted with a disinfecting light. It is necessary to monitor operations and control operation of the disinfecting light.
