Abstract

A system for social analysis of internet traffic -- In a social networking environment the system collects and builds a repository of history traffic condition for internet resources classified by an resource URL and user environment including device type, geographic location, time and bandwidth. The system will collect the traffic information once the resource URL was accessed by anyone in the social network first time, and For same resource URL combined with same user environment only one copy of traffic consumption was stored unless the traffic consumption is changed that is usually caused by the internet resource was updated on server side. Based on the repository of history traffic information user in the social network will given a referred traffic value once they're about to access some internet resource, and user can decide to or not access the resource. With this analysis system, user will know how much traffic an internet resource will cause before he actually access it and user never worry traffic limit would be exceed.

System for social analysis of internet traffic

Nowadays it's the most common and popular everyday activities to surfing internet with mobile device, but users with traffic limits are sometimes wary of clicking links to access internet resources as they have no idea how much internet traffic this resource would consume, e.g. Before user clicks one link to

watch a video user might be afraid of too much data coming so that the traffic limit would be exceed and lead to pay extra. Also, it's hard to know exactly how much traffic one internet resource would cost because data send by server can be dynamically changed based on the user environment including device type, geographic location, time and bandwidth. For example we access the same internet resource, or from different country and the data received from server may be different, and traffic produced by same internet resource may change over time as the internet resource maybe updated.

In this disclosure we are describing a method base on social analysis that will help user to ascertain the likely traffic consumption of clicking a link.

Using this invention there is a traffic analysis system in social networking environment that collects and builds a repository of history traffic condition for internet resources classified by an resource URL and user environment including device type, geographic location, time and bandwidth. Once the resource URL was accessed by anyone in the social network first time, its traffic condition would be collected by the system.

For same resource URL combined with same user environment only one copy of traffic consumption was stored unless the traffic consumption is changed that is usually caused by the internet resource was updated on server side. The traffic collection is shown as below:

Whenever an user in the social network try to access an URL the request will be intercepted by the traffic analysis system and the analysis system will check the repository if there were history traffic conditions existed for this URL, if yes it will give the user a referred value that is most closely associated with this user's environment based on history traffic conditions and specified strategy, then user can make a decision to or not to access the URL based on the referred traffic value. If there were no history traffic condition collected for this URL the analysis system will collect the traffic condition once the user complete the URL access and update repository of history traffic data .
