Abstract

In the traditional manufacture of nano-filler modified paper/pressboard by blending the additives with fiber and fibrid, the adhesion between additive fillers and matrix is weak. Besides, the processing is time, water and energy consuming because of the problem of low filler retention in paper/pressboard. Simplifying the processing of nano-fiiler modified paper/pressboard as there are no problems with retaining fillers, and the there is no pollution of the system with fillers. Developed novel nano-filler/polymer composite fibrid by co-precipitation method, the additive fillers can be wrapped in polymer matrix, there have a optimal adhesion between fillers and polymer. In traditional process, the adhesion between additive fillers and matrix is weak. The production efficiency for making nano-filler modified paper/pressboard can be greatly improved by using novel nano-filler/polymer composite fibrid as raw materials, and eliminate the pollution of filler, thus reducing the product cost obviously.

Principal Applications/Uses of the Invention

A simple and efficient method for preparing polymer fibrid containing nano filler, which aims to improve productivity and solve the problem of low retention of nano-fillers during adding nano-filler using traditional method in paper/pressboard preparation and have the advantage that the paper/pressboard making process is simplified and optimum adhesion between additive fillers and polymer matrix is achieved.

Problem Overcome by the Invention

For the traditional preparation method, nano-filler modified paper/pressboard is prepared by simple blending method, the adhesion between additive fillers and matrix is weak. Besides, the processing is time, water and energy consuming because of the problem of low filler retention in paper/pressboard. The invention consists in producing novel nano- filler/polymer composite fibrid by co-precipitation method, the additive fillers proposed to be wrapped in polymer matrix to enhance the adhesion. The production efficiency for making nano-filler modified paper/pressboard can be greatly improved by using novel nano-filler/polymer composite fibrid as raw materials, thus reducing the product cost.

Detailed Description of the Invention

Insulation paper/pressboard are widely used in transformer and machine applications. With the technology development, more and more research focus on inorganic nano- filler modified insulation paper/pressboard aimed at cost reduction and improving the performance. However, currently manufacturing process of nano-filler modified paper/pressboard disperse the filler into water along with the fiber and fibrid. The traditional method have the disadvantage of uncontrolled additive amount and inefficiency due to the low retention of filler. Besides, there must be a white water recycling system to reuse the filtered filler, so the process is water and energy consuming.

Fibrid, a type of fibrous particle with mico-fiber structure, is used as a binder material entwined fiber or other components in polymeric paper/pressboard making, and has significant impact on the mechanical property of product. There are two main method to prepare polymeric fibrid, compared physically sheared fiber method, the fibrid from precipitation method has much better micro-structure (Figure 1). And the mechanical performance of pressboard is improved dramatically by using precipitation fibrid.

Kinds of novel nano-filler/polymer composite fibrids have been successfully developed by co-precipitation method and aimed to improve the production efficiency and reduce manufacturing cost in insulation paper/pressboard making, and the process of preparing composite fibrid is shown in Figure 2.
