Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for enabling automatic selection of a team for playing Fantasy Sports.  The automatic selection assists an inexperienced user to select his team faster to start playing.  An algorithm is utilized to assist new and inexperienced users to choose some players for the team by optimizing expenditure of an allotted budget.

Description

In a fantasy soccer team selection problem, a label such as forward or midfielder or defender or goalkeeper is provided for a set of players.  A cost is associated with choosing each player.  A full team composition is fixed in advance, e.g. 3 forwards, 5 midfielders, 5 defenders and 2 goalkeepers.  Only a complete team can score point is bound by a budget that depends on filling as many of remaining spots on the team within available budget, spending as much of the available budget as possible and enabling flexibility in budget expenditure such that results are varied and random.

Disclosed is a method and system for enabling automatic selection of a team for playing Fantasy Sports.  The automatic selection assists an inexperienced user to select his team faster to start playing.

In accordance with the method and system, an algorithm is utilized to assist new and inexperienced users to choose some players for the team by optimizing expenditure of an allotted budget.  In a scenario, the algorithm solves auto-draft problem for Fantasy Soccer.  The algorithm is based on idea of formulating the problem as a novel variant of Knapsack Problem and designing an algorithm to optimally solve optimization problem.

In a scenario, if a user allots a set F of players to some positions, a set of players  is obtained.  Each player  is associated with a label , the cost  and value .  In addition, total budget  is allowed for team selection.

In the Fantasy Soccer Team Selection Problem, the full budget is B = 10000, each cost  is an integer number and each weight  is a rational (double) number, formulated as the following variant of a Maximum Knapsack Problem:

                                   

                                   

                                   

Once a best team is found, a player  is chosen from the best team at random thereby disallowing that player to be chosen in any other team defined by .  The algorithm implementation is used repeatedly with a new set of players  for producing different optimal teams each time.

In addition, a dynamic programming method is employed for solving mathematical optimization problem and modeling the auto-draft setting.
