Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for personalizing Internet of things (IoT) to an individual or a group of people by using multiple external inputs.  The method and system can select all external inputs or a sub set of external inputs for operating a specific device depending on relevance of data for the device along with user configured preferences.

Description

Internet of things (IoT) is the future of next generation of consumer electronic devices, where the electronic devices can communicate with each other to provide greater value of service in eco-systems like homes, offices, banks, industries etc.  Conventional systems discuss about protocols used for establishing communication between the electronic devices and further being worked upon improving communication between the electronic devices.  However, there is no system working in development of personalizing eco-systems consisting of electronic devices using external inputs for consumers.

Disclosed is a method and system for personalizing IoT to an individual or a group of people by using external inputs, which may include, but need not be limited to, social platforms, emotions detected by Personal Digital Assistance (PDA’s), usage pattern of devices, surroundings, search, geo locations and the like.  For example, a user plays music while driving back from office.  The method and system can use external inputs to automatically generate a relevant playlist using external inputs such as social signals, emotions detected from PDA, surroundings and usage pattern of device and provide the relevant playlist to music player.  Thus, music is personalized and starts playing when the user starts driving.

The method and system unleashes true potential of IoT by creating eco-systems like homes, offices,            banks, health care, industries, coffee houses and shopping which are highly personalized to an individual or group of people. 

Fig. 1 illustrates a high level view of a method and system used to personalize IoT using external inputs.

As illustrated in fig. 1, the external inputs collected from various sources are transmitted to a proposed system through a Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interface (API) using a push or pull model.  Here, the external input received from social platform on which the user is active can be social signals such as events, status updates, comments, content shared and so on.  Similarly, the external input received from Geo location can be the geo location of the user derived from Global Positioning System (GPS) or any other technology.  The external input received form surroundings can be from circle of people around the user.  Further, the pattern of usage can be parameters like day of the week, time, and duration of usage from pervious usage of the device.  The emotion recognition input can be user emotions det...
