Abstract

The invention proposes a system and method for intelligent position location via mobile device. User takes a picture with several landmark buildings, the landmark buildings are recognized automatically with the existing pattern recognition technologies from cloud service. System gets the geolocation information of these landmark buildings via GIS system, and then calculate the location of mobile device with angle of rotation from mobile device.

The most current position location methods are based on special location module and related satellite system, such as GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. These methods depend on the data and connection between the mobile module and Satellite heavily. in order to reduce the dependence of these Satellite systems, this disclosure proposes a method with no Satellite system dependence, its hardware requirement is much lower then current known methods, only needs a mobile device that has the Gyroscopes sensor and can take panorama photo.

With this method, user can get his location quickly after taking a panorama photo which contains several(no less than 3) landmarks with his mobile device.

The invention proposes a system and method for intelligent position location via mobile device. User takes a picture with several landmark buildings, the landmark buildings are recognized automatically with the existing pattern recognition technologies. System gets the geolocation information of these landmark buildings via GIS system, and then calculate the location of mobile device with angle of rotation from mobile device. We assume the distance between mobile device and buildings are far enough which will ignore the diameter of buildings.

needed like special receivers or satellite system. 3) Cloud technology is used.

To implement this disclosure, following is the detail flow:


1) Take a panoramic picture using the camera of a mobile device, and record the value of the gyroscope of the mobile device to get the angle of rotation;


2) Upload the panoramic picture to cloud which provides cloud-oriented 2D recognition service for landmark buildings, such service and technology is not a claim point of this disclosure.


3) The cloud service recognizes at least 3 landmarks (e.g. tall buildings) from the picture, and get the geolocation of the landmarks, the 3 buildings are recognized and have gyroscope value A, B, C. (see picture 1);

4) Using the value of gyroscope, calculate the angles between the landmarks (see picture 2). Here we assume the distance between mobile device and buildings are far enough which will ignore the diameter of buildings.

5) Based on data got from steps above, calculate the geolocation of the mobile device. See implementation details below.
