A method to automate pagination and navigation accessibility

Mobile navigation matters the usability and accessibility. Nowadays, the screen size of mobile devices become bigger and bigger, many of the application operation would need to involve two hands instead of one hand. This issue happens to pagination, the users have to click on page number of next page link/button to move forward or backward accordingly. Moreover, when the users navigate the next levels on the page, if they want to move back, they have to click on back button many times to return the original entry page.

In our invention, we would like to increase the usability and accessibility when the users navigate in web browsers and applications. Users can use only one hand to achieve better navigation experiences.

Briefly stated, the invention discloses a method to automatically distinguish the web page elements related with navigation and pagination, then using gestures or other more convenient operations to act web page switching.

The system handles automatic webpage navigation with two ways: the general way and self-learning way. As the name implies, the general way is used to handles the web pages which is designed following some of standards and naming conventions. On the other hand, the self-learning way, with the help of self-learning mode, is used for the web pages outside of the general way.

The general way:


1. When a web page is loading, the page elements and their attributes are collected.

2. The collected page elements and attributes are analyzed, and then identifies the elements which are related with page navigation. The identification rule could be preset by system or be customized by users.

3. The identification rule includes, but are not limited to, the following items. And the rule could be used as a combination of one or more items.


I. HTML class or name attributes: page, paging, pager, pagination, navigation and navigator and so on.

II. Keyword: Next, Previous or the words in other languages such as Chinese, French and so on, which could be automatically changed based on current

webpage language.

III. href attribute: a burst of href attributes are set as URLs which are similar with current webpage.

4. When reaching to the bottom of current webpage, the the system automatically navigates to next page, similarly, when reaching to the top of current

webpage, navigates to previous page.

The self-learning way:

For some of webpages, the general way may fail to identify the page navigation. In this case, the self-learning way is launching to handle the webpages. Apart from the steps mentioned in the general way, a self-learning mode will be added and used in the self-learning way. The self-learning mode provides the following functions.
