Disclosed is a system and method for providing advanced analytics by cross referencing sensor based emotion analysis and user behavioral traces.

Behavioral traces of user interaction with tools such as web applications have been intensively used to provide analytics for the purpose of understanding general tool usage, usability issues, tool optimization, and fault localization. However, a users' real experience and reaction cannot be logged in such tools. Thus it is usually unknown if a user was satisfied with the tools or frustrated in their interactions.

In order to receive indications of the users' real experience the following is disclosed: A method and system that integrates sensor based analysis of

individuals with user behavioral traces to provide increased insight about a users behavior without requiring additional action on the part of the user.

An embodiment of the disclosed method and system may have the following

aspects: The system tracks user actions. As a user interacts with an artifact or tool in

an environment, the system tracks their actions. For example, a user may interact with a web site and have each of their clicks and page views tracked.

A collection of sensors are provided. As the user interacts with the tool or

artifact, the collection of sensors (e.g. cameras, O2 monitors, perspiration monitors) monitors the users behavior in non-obtrusive manner. These sensors record attributes of the users and also do some processing to identify emotions of the user.

The sensor data and the user traces are combined to provide a behavior trace

with robust information about a user's emotional and physical state. When aggregated across a number of users, the system gauges the affective response of users to the tool or artifact without the need for the user to talk about their experience.

The disclosed system and method does not rely on a single source (logged user behavioral trace) to provide analytics. By integrating observed users' emotions, the system derives more insights on understanding on the users' interaction with application.
