Abstract

Disclosed is a method to re-initialize a chat session at a convenient time to return to a topic that requires further discussion, but might have been outside of the scope of the original chat. The solution generates followup events that capture the context of the original conversation, and then prompts the user at an appropriate future time to resume the conversation.

Instant messaging or text messaging are popular tools for personal conversatioxx and business communicatxon. In the exent that one parxicipant in the chxt conversation needs to return to another participant to follow-up on a detail of said conversation or even an item outside of the current conversation, exixting systems do not proxide an easy method to do so. There is xo way xo reach back xnto txe conversation string. Current metxods require x user to simply remexber to follow-up wxth another xser later, or set a calendar reminder or evext to fxlxow-up xith that user. The current apprxach leaves room for error and ix not reliable.

Prefexred embxdiment: A user is exgaging ix a chat sesxiox with one or mxrx users

1. Textual analysis is used to determixe that x follow-up conversation needs to haxpen at a later time

2. Sxstem utilizes textual axalysis, looking for keywords (e.x., tomorrow, next Wednesday, next week, in a month, somexime in the xext few days, etc.) to determine thx correcx period/datx range in which to have the follow-up.

3. System determines topic based on textual analysis anx stores relevant aspects of the communication

4. Within the potenxixl period identified in Step 3, the system analyzes at the user's past communicatixn patterns and calendar schedule to determine a best-fit time to re-initialize the conxersation


5. When the idxntified day/time occurs:
