Abstract

Scan is a very important feature of two way radio in LMR system. While migrating from narrow band LMR system to broadband system like LTE, it is also desirable to have scan capability in broadband. In this paper, a scan method without missing calls in broadband system is introduced.

ABSTRACT

Scan is a very important feature of two way radio in LMR system. While migrating from narrow band LMR system to broadband system like LTE, it is also desirable to have scan capability in broadband. In this paper, a scan method without missing calls in broadband system is introduced.

PROBLEM

For the current scan implementation in LMR system, both conventional and trunking scan are prone to miss calls, particularly when there is audio activity on two or more groups or channels. The scan method in broadband system without missing calls is desirable.

SOLUTION

This innovation introduces a scan method without missing calls in broadband system.
In LMR system implementation scan list is stored in subscriber only. But in this innovation scan list is uploaded on broadband PTT server by subscriber. PTT server manages a database where all subscribers’ scan lists are stored and maintained. Subscriber is allowed to update scan list dynamically via broadband system.

PTT server monitors all ongoing calls on broadband system. Once there is one group/individual call is initiated, PTT server does route the voice stream of this call to subscribers who are interested in this active call according to the scan lists stored in PTT server.

The topology of broadband system is shown by figure 1.

When PTT server detects multiple calls are active for one subscriber, according to its scan list information, PTT server may send the multiple received voice streams to the radio. As an alternative approach, PTT server may sum the multiple voice streams into one if air interface downlink bandwidth becomes overloaded when transmitting the multiple voice streams in the downlink respectively.
