Described engineering data model

Background

An engineering data model of an embedded product is described in a structured way to provide reuse in different implementations of engineering tools for the same product or product family. The engineering tools consist of a generic implementation that instantiates the described data model. The description of the data model contains information about location of data in a data model, type of data, unit information of data, user description text of data, help text of data, dependency of data and mapping to other formats for import and export. Additionally, user documentation links, links to image resources, etc. are described.

 

Problem to be solved

Keep data model of an engineering tool consistent over several implementations using different programming languages. Allow modification and extension of the data model without writing program code.
