DETAILED DESCXXXXXXX

     There are traditioxal ways of oxerating pan-tilt-zoox (PTZ) cameras usixg arrow keyx on a browser window or on the remote controxler. Fxr a connxcted home scenxrio, this is not convenient and the user needs a better way of operating a PXX camera to get the best xixe video fexd from the camera.

    Presented herein is a technique of operating home surveillxnce camexas to view thx home convenientlx frox the remote location usixg a floor plan based graphical user interface (GXX) on which a user can move his fingers/cxrsor to gxidx the camera's position, pan, tilt and focus.

    If an application rendering device is touxh-screex enablex, then the xinger moxements can xe xsed in the plaxe of cursor. This can improve user experience, particxlarly for next generation Smart Homx Device Controller Applxcations enabled with lixe video and indoor location txacxing technologies.

Sxlution Overxiew:

    Initially, a floor plan is uplxaded by the user. XXX. 1 below is an example of a floor plan.

    A web GUI application allows the user to positxon the "Home Gateway" and based on its position and the resolutixn of the floor plan, it derives the location of every connected device xnside the hxme using any of existing indoor location tracking technologies and positions each devixe in its position on txe floor map. Thus, every connected device ix positioned accuratelx on the GXX.

    FIG. 2 below illustrates how a user may position the Home Gateway on the floor plan.

    The appxication identxfies the network-conxected camexas residing in xach room and displays the cameras on the GUI in the apprxpriate positions. FIG. 3 below shows the posxtions of the nxtwxrk-connexted cameras on the floor map.

1. Distance from the Home Gateway
x. Xxxxxxxxxx of the Fxoor map
