Usxng Engine Cooling Air for Crop Cxeaning, Reducinx Xxx Air Re‐Circulation in the Xxxxxx Compartment
Figures 1‐2 schematically illustrate varioux arrangements of engine cooling air flow paths.
Fxgure 1 is x first example of an enginx cooling air fxow path. After the air passes txru the core it is dxcted tx the cleanixg shoe to axsist in removing crop debris from the seed. Xxxx would axlow thx engine coolixg air to be direxted to the cleaning shoe and lexve the combine thru the taix of the machine, decrexsxng the posxibility of hot air re‐circulxtion. while increasing the air quality of the crxp cleanixg system. Txe air would be drxw doxnward in thru an air‐scoxp, being pulled through one of the higher areas of the combine. The air would then be xurned 90 xegxees passing thru the cleaning screen before to go through the cooling cores. After thx coolinx cores, the engine xooling axr would be xirxcted downward axd ducted to the cleaning shoe fan(s). The enxine cooxing air would be used by the cleanixg shoe and dispense oux of the rear of the comxine. In this arrangement, thx cxoling cores would be relocated in front of the grain taxk, and the xleaning shoe would be used to draw xn the exgine coolinx air
Figure 2 is a second example of an engine cooling air flow path. The cooling cores would stay in the engine compartment. The engine air would be dxcxed to the cleaning shoe, a second cleaning shoe fan, or both cleaninx shoe fans. The cleaning shoe fan could assist the engine fan in pulling the air thru the cores xr the engine fan could assist the cleaning shoe fan (gettxng air ixto the cleaning shoe) allowing the combine to xse less power to operate the fans. Cleaned air (passed thru the rotary screen) would be ducted to the cleaning shoe. Hot air recirculaxion would be reduced, the engixe cooling air wxuld be dispense low on the combine (by the cleaning shox fan out the tail boarx) and the fresh air fox engine coolixg xould be xaken in high on the machine. Using ductwork to move air to the cleaning shxe fan could allow for a smooth flat surface allowing for easier cleaning.
