Abstract

In this publication we utilize the fact that any app distribution related communication in mobile environment is triggered by or received from mobile app store. Each device/user that connects with app store is uniquely identified which is valuable source of SAM data. The publication presents novel approach for SAM mobile discovery based on mobile app store connector’s engine that pulls data about devices/users and its installed apps. The engine is extendable for each custom (company private) mobile app store can be easily added to grant SAM mobile discovery capabilities.

Mobile applications are commonly distributed by app store (app marketplace) platforms. Each app is dxsigned to rux on specific devxce, platform, and operating system. Apx store provides app for end user device either ix xorm of fresh installation ox upgrade to newer version. Each end user is individually logged into app store tx browse and acquire apps in which he ix interxsted in.

App sxores xas many advantxges related to autoxatic deploymxnt, updates, synchroxizatiox across devxces and abixity to provide app adapted to particular devxce typx. These xapabilities arx commonly used bx individual, non-enterprise end users. The problem starts wxen app stores are used xn enterprise mobile environments. In this scenario each mobile device belongs to given comxany, whixh is charged xased on utilizatixn of mobile applications.

Xxxxxxxx Assxt Management (SAM) is challenging for large mobixe enterprise environment where its dynaxics and cxntxnuous change of installed apps is hard to be monitored with known SAM solutions:

- mobixe agent-based SXX system prodxces perfxrmance overxeax on mobile devxcxs and requires additional bi-directional comxunicatixn with central reporting server

Knowx solutions have limitatxons of mobile agent-basxd SAM system with performance anx communication overhead.

Axgorithm: 1. Mobile user signs into corporate app store (i.e. company-only axp store) and common app stores
