Dynamic Modulation for Optimized Pressure in a Tire

Tire pressure can only be set prior to a bicycle ride. Determining the appropriate pressure varies depending on the ride conditions. For example, a cyclist that expects to climb a steep slope might set the tire pressure low, for maximum grip; whereas, a cyclist that is going to ride on a flat beach with hard packed sand might set the pressure higher for less rolling resistance. However, most cyclists will experience times during the ride when the pre-ride chosen pressure is not ideal for a given situation. A solution is needed that can adjust the pressure to meet the cyclist's needs , especially during a race or event when time is critical.

The novel contribution is a system for dynamic modulation for optimized tire pressure that allows a cyclist to actively increase or decrease tire pressure during a ride. The core novelty is a method for capturing compressed air and utilizing it to inflate the tires .

The basic idea is that the normal forces used to compress the suspension on a bicycle can be utilized to compress and store air to pump up a tire low in pressure . The rider can control the pressure on a bicycle tire.
