Abstract

Disclosed is an apparatus that enables a single user, without the use of any additional tools, to safely remove and install a tire on a vehicle that has been lifted above the ground. The system releases by turning a screw using a lever, and pulling on the same lever after the clamps have released the shaft.

Apparatus for Quick Release Car Wheel

Current mechanisms and steps for changing a car wheel once the car has been lifted can be complex , physically difficult, and potentially dangerous for a person who does not know the process.

The normal process of changing a tire starts by using a tire iron to loosen the bolts that fasten the tire onto the car (see Figure 1), then jacking up the car, then finish taking off the nuts, removing the tire and replacing with the new one, and following the same process backwards. One of the issues we find here is that the tension on the screws is uneven, and if it is not enough, the screws may become loose again, causing a larger safety hazard.

Another approach is to use a centered locking system that comprises only one big nut to lock the wheel , which is mounted on a set of pins. The issue with this approach is the additional tool required to change the wheel.

The novel contribution is an apparatus that enables a single user, without the use of any additional tools, to safely remove and install a tire on a vehicle that has been lifted above the ground. The system releases by turning the screw using the lever, and

pulling on the same lever after the clamps have released the shaft.

Implementation does not require additional tools because nuts are not required in the system . The person turns the lever to loosen the shaft, push the wheel, affix the new wheel, and fasten i...
