Disclosed is a method and system for automatically transmitting accurate location data of a user to an emergency service when an emergency service call is placed by the user via a mobile device. The accurate location data includes, but not limited to, location/ Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates of the user, the user's telephone number, Uniform Resource Locator (URL) associated with a location report, the user's email address and an identifier of the cell tower connected with the mobile device.

In an embodiment, the method and system is implemented as a mobile application (app) running on a smartphone. When an emergency call is placed by the user via the smartphone, the method and system fetches an identifier (ID) of a local cell tower connected with the smartphone and other location data associated with the user. The method and system, then, queries a centralized service entity for determining an appropriate method for delivering the location data to the emergency service. The centralized service entity is controlled by at least one of a carrier, a manufacturer and a government. The methods for delivering the location data include, but not limited to, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Short Messaging Services (SMS) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). Once the appropriate method of delivering the location data is determined, the method and system transmits the location data along with the identifier of the cell tower connected with the smartphone to the emergency service.
