Abstract

The purpose of this invention is to provide a method to retain a slip on isolation device like a down hole packer that would enable the pipe configuration to perform as a stop or end ring. This same design could be used with a center ring if there were multiple isolation devices installed on this invention. The center ring version would have square shoulders on each or both sides, rather than angled to ensure a positive position of the isolation devise. This invention can be run in a cased or open hole where the assembly would be held in a fixed position on the tubular goods without the use of end rings. This isolation device could be installed on a metallic or non- metallic tubular.

The invention brings the elimination of the traditional slip on or welded on end ring. In the past, all end rings would slip over the pipe in one fashion or another. This invention integrates the end ring in the design of the pipe in the connection. This invention can be integrated on to the tubulars made of metallic or non-metallic material like composite, plastic, carbon fiber or any other non-sparking materials.

The invention could be used in all coal bed methane wells globally where each well could use 3-5 pairs of these devices in each. There are hundreds of CBM wells drilled annually to allow for the use of this tool. There could be large numbers of wells with multiple quantities in each.
