Abstract

Aircraft boarding process often becomes a mess due to the inappropriate on-board batch order arrangement and carry-on luggage placement search. Thus, the System and Method for Carry-on Luggage Based Aircraft Boarding wants to deal with these problems to achieve a more efficient and smooth boarding schedule. There are four parts in this disclosure. First, use an IoT-based system (Internet of Things, hereafter referred as IoT) collect all passengers' carry-on luggages in check-in process, and transmit these info to the cloud environment. Second, compose an optimized carry-on luggege system by the info collected in the first step, and aircraft company could get the most benefitable luggages arrangement. Then, by the luggage arrangement and passenger seats information, the boarding batch determination system could provide a look up table of boarding priority. Last, the luggage placement enforcement system could manage the boarding information between the cabinets on aircraft and passengers, so that passengers can easily find out and unlock the cabinet with received credential and guidance stored in mobile devices. Based on the optimal arragement of carry-on luggages and boarding batch and systematical boarding-process management, the chaos boarding situation could be improved and the aircraft company could earn better customer satisfactory.

Problem descriptions:


• Boarding an aircraft can take a long time because of inappropriate on -board batch order arrangement based on passenger's seat simply. It is often found that cabin gets crowded and is prone to chaos situation due to passenger's carry -on luggage placement. Eventually the schedule gets delayed and passenger feels unsatisfactory of the airline .

  • Passenger with large or multiple luggage often blocks boarding queue • Passenger and service crew is often looking for available overhead cabinet to store luggage
• Low fare airliners emerges as innovative air transportation nowadays and their business relies on leveraging every service and space as well. It is able to increase profits by selling more spaces to people who need it .


• Rather than passenger puts luggage randomly, a more systematical luggage placement mechanism can enable greater air services with surplus resources, e.g. overhead cabinet.

Core idea - Brief description:
• The proposed idea is to enable a more efficient and smooth boarding schedule by leveraging information of passenger's seat , carry-on luggage and in-flight overhead cabinet.

There is a cloud system serving as information hub and persistence storage as well . Check-in management system and carry-on

measurement facility are connected to the cloud for luggage data collection .

Based on collected data, an optimal luggage allocation algorithm is defined to preserve overhead cabinet for passenger's luggage .

Airliner can decide boarding batch order with the luggage allocation and its business rule flexibly .
