Abstract

Disclosed is a method for detecting similarity among documents of software requirement definitions. We adopted convincing heuristics and quantified similarities among document descriptions by using a distance based on dice coefficient. This approach enables us to narrow down the possible combinations of descriptions, so that experts only have to investigate a small number of doubtful descriptions.

Method for detecting similarity among program specifications

Disclosed is a method for detecting similarity among documents of software requirement definitions. We adopted convincing heuristics and quantified similarities among document descriptions by using a distance based on dice coefficient. This approach enables us to narrow down the possible combinations of descriptions, so that experts only have to investigate a small number of doubtful descriptions.

The figure below shows how this invention works. This invention consists of Steps 1 to 3. Step 4 should be performed by special matter experts using the results of the invention.

Step 1.

Extracts names and parameters (data items) of functions from software requirement document descriptions. This step is implemented by Excel macros.

Step 2.

Calculates of distances between two functions for all combinations. Following two distances are defined:

Step 3


Sorts the combinations according to the distance. Two kinds of sorted list (according to distance 1 and distance 2) are used in step 4.
