Currently, Television (TV) programming suggestions are generated based on history of previously watched programs. However, existing methods do not consider a possibility of multiple family members or a dynamic group of people with different preferences watching TV together.

Disclosed is a method and system for dynamically suggesting TV programs based on preferences of multiple viewers

watching TV at a given time. The method and system integrates a program preference list that is gathered from viewing history, watched program history or user profiles obtained from a cable box. The method and system further analyzes to identify users that are watching TV at a given point in time and suggests a TV program that appeals to all present users. If suggested programs are ignored, the method and system removes the programs from future suggestions. The method and system utilizes algorithms to increase accuracy and family preference tuning.

In accordance with the method and system, a smart TV processor is illustrated in the figure.

The smart TV processor includes a TV Programming suggestion component that generates a list of programming suggestions for viewers in a room. The TV programming suggestion component invokes a cognitive and analytics processor. The cognitive and analytics processor receives a list of viewers in a room. Further, the method and system applies a cognitive analysis to determine best programming suggestions based on preferences listed in profile of each viewer in the room. The smart TV processor includes a family member finder component that determines viewers present in a room at a given moment.
