Abstract

Dow Corning® 7-FC4210 Elastomer is a 2-part solvent-less silicone film-forming technology. It is a thermoset silicone rubber system, with a fast cure at room temperature. After mixing of both parts at room temperature, the system cures rapidly. The cure phenomenon also takes place when the two parts are mixed and applied directly at the surface of many materials including skin and wet surface. The resulting films from the above systems are networks of cross-linked and reinforced silicone polymers that are soft, flexible, elastic and long lasting. These films may be used in skin care products (for example peel-off mask, anti-wrinkle products, sun screen, fragrance(perfume/deodorant) patch, etc.), in wound dressings, and/or as matrices for loading and delivery of active ingredients in topical therapeutic systems and dermato-cosmetic products. Co-formulating ingredients, including functional ingredients such as active compounds, drugs, vitamins, emollients, humectants, pigments, sparkly and light-scattering materials could be added to either Part A or B or both (or during mixing process) to obtain a functional film that cures at the surface of various substrates including skin and other keratinous substrates and that might be peeled-off easily.

Abstract:

Dow Corning® 7-FC4210 Elastomeris a 2-part solvent-less silicone film-forming technology.

It is a thermoset silicone rubber system, with a fast cure at room temperature. After mixing of both parts at room temperature, the system cures rapidly. The composition of the 2 parts are the following:

Part A

·         Reinforced silicone phase: vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane and treated silica

·         Catalyst: platinum complex

·         INCI name: Bis-Vinyldimethicone (and) Silica Silylate (and)  Platinum Divinyldisiloxane

Part B

·         Reinforced silicone phase: vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane and treated silica

·         Cross-linking agent: methylhydrogen siloxane

INCI name: Bis-Vinyldimethicone (and) Silica Silylate (and) Hydrogen Dimethicone

Alternatively, Dow Corning® 7-FC4210 Elastomer can be prepared by mixing a Base and Curing Agent as well.  

·         The Base comprises the silicone polymer (vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane), the treated silica and the platinum catalyst. 

·         The Curing Agent is composed of the silicone polymer (vinyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane) and the cross-linking agent (methylhydrogen siloxane). 

After mixing of both parts at room temperature, the system cures rapidly. The cure phenomenon also takes place when the two parts are mixed and applied directly at the surface of many materials including skin and wet surface. Co-formulating ingredients including relevant active ingredients or excipients may be added to the system providing they are thoroughly dispersed in either part or both before the two parts are mixed.
