Disclosed is a method and system for synchronizing discussion posts with learning pace of students in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The system also includes a discussion app supported per course to synchronize the discussions with the learning pace of the students joined for taking the course.

The method and system is used to facilitate students to view posts in the pace corresponding to a course enrolled and engaged by the students. For example, if a student enrolls to a class that has started 2 weeks ago; the student is presented with discussions related to week 1 not much further. This way, the student can really engage with forum closely and feel within the learning pace of the course.

In a scenario, the method and system is used to determine a systematic way of viewing posts related to materials finished by the students. For example, two students, student 1 and student 2 have to read three reading materials, which are material A provided by lecture and is mandatory to read and material B and material C related to diagram and task respectively are optional to read. Here, student 1 completes reading materials A, B, and C and decides to create two posts P1 and P2. However, student 2 completes only reading materials A and B. So, in order to allow student 2 to access posts P1 and P2, the method and system uses following criteria:


1. Compares the materials read by student 2 with student 1


2. Whether the materials read by student 2 are mandatory or optional and

3. Whether the content mentioned in post is in relation to the materials read by student 2

Subsequently, using these criteria, the method and system determines that student 2 has read the mandatory reading material A and optional reading material B, and post P1 is related to only these two materials A and B. Then, the student 2 is allowed to access the post P1. However, in case of post P2, the post content is related to the reading material C and student 2 is not allowed to access the post P2, since student 2 did not read the material C.
