Vehicle safety is often compromised when turning or merging into other traffic, resulting in increased risk for accidents and personal injury. A system and method are needed for improving the operation of vehicles by allowing dynamic movement of a vehicle's side-view mirrors.

The novel contribution is a system and method for detecting, via a Global Positioning System (GPS), that the vehicle is approaching a highway exit or entrance, and then automatically adjusting the driver's side mirror outward, such that any on-coming traffic on the road that the car is entering is visible in the mirror. This system relies upon geo-positioning navigation within a vehicle and electronically controlled mirrors in the vehicle and/or a GPS-enabled smart phone with wireless or Near Field Communications (NFC) with the vehicle's mirror controls system.

To implement the system in a preferred embodiment:

1. The user is driving on a road that intersects with another road via an off/on ramp, as is used with a highway or major thoroughfare

2. The vehicle's GPS location maps the upcoming intersection point 3. The vehicle performs one of the following: A. Slows to make the turn
B. Invokes the turn signal indicator, or
