Abstract

The present invention offers the flexible packaging industry with an extremely stable and cost effective one component clay-free oxygen barrier coating. This coating is preferably clear and able to produce transparent printed films. This transparency of printed film allows viewers to look through the film package without any obstruction. It would also be possible for the coating to be tinted with a colorant. In a less preferred embodiment, the coating would be opaque. This coating eliminates the need for the use of primers and can be applied by many existing printing/coating technologies (such as for example flexo printing and gravure printing) onto low surface energy printing substrates (such as OPP and various polyethylenes (PE)), thus significantly simplifying the coating/printing process.
