DUAL REAR LICENSE PLATE BRACKET

Vehicles that are sold in multiple markets do not always have the same attachment layout for each marketĀ“s license plate dimensions. Brackets or adapters are often used to solve this issue. Rear license plate brackets tend not to be cost or weight effective designs; excessive material is used given that these components do not have any structural functionality for which the use of less material in certain zones is desired.

A dual bracket which can be used for Left and Right hand sides is proposed (see illustration 1)

Design Description

The dual rear license plate bracket is designed to have six main attachment holes; two match the vehicle's attachment layout (2), the other four, symmetrically match both sides of the intended market license plate (3). The main reason of having four holes for the license plate attachment is to be able to use the same part on both sides; final bracket assembly will use two license plate attachment holes on each of two brackets (4).

Conclusion

By implementing this design, many benefits of material reduction are achieved. Such as cheaper tooling and reduced cycle time (due to smaller components), lighter, cheaper and less complex parts standardized for multiple vehicles.
