A Method and System for Creating an Enterprise Wide Database Portfolio Value

Disclosed is a method and system for creating an enterprise wide database portfolio value. The method and system is used for assessing and appraising combined value of an organization's application(s) database repositories. The assessment for the enterprise wide database value is done by creating a single quality score and qualifying reasons for the database value.

Information systems need to persist the data that they are processing in what is commonly known  as a Database. There are many database management systems that offer the flexibility to store the  data, manage the relationships between the data, and provide the associated interfaces to interact  with the data, but they cannot judge the quality of how the user has defined the underlying  Database. The Database Scoring method analyzes a design and definition and produces a single  numerical value assessing its attributes against a scoring knowledge base that grades, evaluates  and quantifies the result. The Database Score is an indicator of how well the database has been  designed and defined.  By creating a Database Score you now have a way to assess the quality of  the supplied design in a single value.

In a scenario, a suitor or a venture capitalist requires a takeover target cloud to turnover internal information of an organization or company's database design for analysis . However, the company or organization is not interested to disclose technical information related to the company's work for database design . To avoid disclosing proprietary information of the company or organization to the venture capitalist , the target discloses only the combined assessed database portfolio value and qualifying reasons for the database portfolio value. Here, the assessment is a gauge of overall quality of the organization's database definitions and the design work . The method and system examines the combination of database scores and the design reasons/attributes obtained from the database definitions . Further, the database scores and design reasons/attributes are used to determine the quality of the organization's database and calculate the database portfolio value . Additionally, the overall assessment of company or organizations can be done by comparing results from all the databases.
