A Method and System for Ensuring Reliable Availability to Network-Accessible Services

Network appliances are often surrounded with a complex configuration and initialization of services that run on and are made available to networked users. The complexity of configuration and services can be frequently translated into long start up times compounded by a lack of association between start of the services and network ports that are made available to users of those services. However, these set of circumstances often leads to incoming traffic to networked appliances for services that are not yet ready to receive that traffic. Thus, the traffic to networked appliances can result in high CPU consumption or even crashes by affecting all services that are supposed to run on the network appliance.

Disclosed is a method and system for ensuring reliable availability to network-accessible services.

The method and system provides a component that maintains knowledge of the operational state of constituent services on the network appliance, where the network

appliance can maintain control over the state of the networked channels over which the network appliance services are accessed.

The system running on such a networked appliance supports independent, additive and customizable services. The system also supports a common infrastructure for the network appliance services, which can be enabled to obtain status of the respective

services. Further, the system supports in-built serv...
