Application development often needs to consider multiple languages to support

multinational deployments as well as language preference choices for users independent of geographic boundaries. Development teams regularly address this problem when building applications for production and delivery. Typically, solutions involve the separation of displayable text from the application code. Those strings can then be separately managed and translated into multiple languages. Additionally, the application itself has a mechanism to determine the user's language preference and display the appropriate language specific translated text.

However, deployed applications may have additional displayable text that is specified during the application deployment and configuration process. Applications generally

need configurations, which are often specific to the application, following delivery and deployment. However, those configurations often include specifying displayable text such as names, labels, descriptions, headings etc. Those configurations are often set in one specific language without multi-national support and the overall effect of an application intended to support multiple languages is diminished.

The novel solution is a system for application customization that enables data input in multiple languages and integrates with the internationalization support of the application. The solution includes a translation user interface (UI) widget and

supporting operations that collect the user customization data input strings and assist

with internationalization. This provides:

• A translation UI widget for label data input that is language-aware
• The language-aware processing leverages on-line resources, learned usage patterns, and heuristics to auto-identify the language of the text input to the translation UI widget.
