Method of Live Public Transportation Status Service

Today, worldwide demand for bus transportation is driven by population growth (9 billion by 2050). According to the International Association of Public Transport, there are about 80% public transportation passengers around the world using buses. For passengers of public bus transportation, the receipt of bus routes, departure and arrival times on demand is essential to making travel plans.

It is inconvenient for passengers who are unaware of the exact arrival or departure times at a bus station during rush hour. In order to track real-time bus statuses, a real time bus status tracking framework is needed. However, to build and operate such a framework is expensive and unreliable because of the huge number of bus routes and buses. In Beijing, for example, there are more than 1,020 bus routes, 22,555 buses, and 4.43 billion riders (2013). If just 1% of bus transmitters malfunctioned, million of passengers would be affected.

Therefore, it is necessary to define a cheaper and simpler method to track live bus statuses based on existing mobile data and network, without relying on bus GPS location services.

A live public transportation status service can be provided for solving above problem. The core idea defines a public transportation service method for supporting real time transportation assistant based on automatized crowd sourcing data analysis technology. The method comprises (refer FIG-1):
