Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for vehicle seat relocation and repositioning for optimal safety on impact. The method and system allows a user to set an accident probability threshold for a vehicle. The method and system monitors environment data of the vehicle and determines a probability of an accident. The method and system re-positions, relocates and/or adjusts the interiors or inclination angle of the seating, or other parts of the vehicle for optimal protection of passengers inside the vehicle, if accident criteria exceeds above threshold.

Disclosed is a method and system for vehicle seat relocation and repositioning for optimal safety on impact. The method and system allows a user to set an accident probability threshold for a vehicle. The method and system monitors environment data of the vehicle and determines a probability of an accident. The method and system re-positions, relocates and/or adjusts the interiors or inclination angle of the seating, or other parts of the vehicle for optimal protection of passengers inside the vehicle, if accident criteria exceeds above threshold.

In one embodiment, the method and system determines the safest locations for the passengers and the seats within the vehicles for the accident criteria, if the method and system determines an accident is imminent or the probability of an accident exceeds above threshold. The probability of an accident can be based on the speed of an approaching vehicle and the likelihood of the vehicle unable to turn or stop before hitting the vehicle. The method and system also utilizes historical data from other vehicles.

The method and system determines optimal vehicle seat position and location to relocate and reposition the seats for optimal safety, if accident criteria exceeds above threshold. The method and system further relocates the seats, dash or even changes the angle of inclination of the seats, when a passenger collapses or become

unconscious. In addition, the method and system utilizes all the seats to form a circular barrier to provide more protection during impact. For example, the seats can be repositioned to face each other and ensure that the back of the seats lean in to form a protective barrier. Further, the method and system rotates the entire cabin so that the unoccupied seats, dash and other parts of the vehicle are on one side of the impact to provide an extra protective barrier.

The method and system maintains a database which includes vehicle impact weakness (e.g., impact from front, back, side, etc.) to determine the best seat locations or positions. If the method and system determines that the side of the vehicle is a weak spot, then the seats are positioned together in a circular shape to minimize injury. Thus, the method and system analyzes the seats possible positions and locations to determine optimal safety spots. The method and system further adjusts the speed, direction or other controls of the vehicle to optimize the safety of seat location and position.
