Abstract

*This technology also helps for location announcement for the passengers whether they are new /localities/ differently abled persons will not miss their bus stops as it will notify them prior to the travelers. The Automated Bus Commute sensing system using RF (Radio-frequency) and IR (Infra-red) sensor technology helps us to keep count of the number of passengers at any given moment in the bus. The different bus-stop locations are announced and displayed as soon as the bus nears the stop using RF technology. IR sensors are kept near the doors and as soon as a person enters or leaves the bus the count is accordingly calculated and displayed. Radio frequency transmitters and a receiver is used for the location intimation. The location and the count at each stop is stored in a database which can be referred later and decisions on the frequency of buses at that particular route can be determined. The main component that manages all the base functions is the PIC (Programmable Interface Controller). The existing system in the bus does not provide us with these facilities. This is mainly designed to help passengers traveling by bus. The proposed system based on PIC micro controller, RF technology and IR sensors is cheap and provides immediate benefits to bus travelers.

Current Problem: Transportation plays a key role in Smarter Cities. Public transport bus services are generally based on regular operation of transit along a route calling at agreed bus stops according to a published public transport timetable. It plays a vital role in day to day activities to reach the desired destination. On peak hours of the days in few places the count of the buses are very less where the crowd shows up more than expected or Vice- versa. Due to that the people starts running behind buses / standing at the steps / hanging as they know that they have to wait for another few minutes to get on to the next bus.

Proposed Solution: In order to work with the system in a better way, we are proposing a solution where the passengers can use much of the Bus Transport and also it will be very easy to increase the number of busses where the count of passengers is high andthis technology also helps in location announcement for the passengers whether they are new /localities/ differently abled persons will not miss their bus stops as it will notify them prior to the travelers.

This idea is related to Automated Bus Commute Sensing System where the passenger count can easily be collected and can increase the number of busses where the count is high and also can decrease the number of busses where the count is low.
