DIAGNOSTIC APPARATUS CAPABLE OF PROVIDING BIPLANE IMAGING

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to imaging systems, and more particularly to a diagnostic apparatus capable of providing imaging in two planes.

A biplane diagnostic apparatus uses two photographic systems, a frontal photographic system and a lateral photographic system, to achieve simultaneous photographing in two directions.  The frontal photographic system photographs a subject or patient lying on his or her back on a diagnostic table top in a frontal plane. The lateral photographic system photographs the subject in a lateral plane.

Various biplane diagnostic apparatuses used conventionally have two recording units disposed in different planes.  Each of the recording units has an X-ray detector and an X-ray source.  One conventional biplane diagnostic apparatus comprises a phase contrast recording unit and a conventional X-ray imaging.  Another conventional biplane diagnostic apparatus has two X-ray tubes and two radiation receivers for respectively obtaining images in two different planes.  Such conventional biplane diagnostic apparatuses use two separate robotic arms, and two different c-arcs in a circular gantry. Therefore, conventional biplane diagnostic apparatuses require huge space and complex robotics. 

It would be desirable to have an improved diagnostic apparatus that is capable of providing imaging in two planes.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The disclosure proposes a diagnostic apparatus capable of providing imaging in two planes.  The diagnostic apparatus comprises one c-arc or two inline c-arcs using a common pivot.
