Field of the invention

            The present invention relates to a connector element for assembling furniture.

Background of the invention

            Many household furniture such a cupboards, tables chairs, benches, are made of planks. Generally, the planks are connected to one another via screws, nails, adhesive, or other connections. Mostly, these connections are invisible to the eye as they are concealed.

            However, there is a general need in the art for simplicity, in particular because many consumers wish to do more themselves. Instead of buying a finished piece of furniture in a shop, they wish to buy the parts as a kit of parts and assembly the household furniture themselves. However, many existing pieces of furniture are too complicated to assemble for an average consumer. Furthermore, available connectors are not very versatile.

            There is also a general need for furniture having a sturdy or tough look.

Object of the invention

It is an object of the invention to provide a connector for interconnecting planks in a simple and generic way.

It is another object of the invention to provide a versatile connector for interconnecting planks which allows a user to assemble a variety of furniture without help from a professional.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a connector for interconnecting planks which allows a user to design a household furniture which he or she can assemble himself or herself without help from a professional.

It is yet another object of the invention to provide a household furniture comprising these connectors and planks.

It is another object of the invention to provide a kit-of-parts comprising the required parts for making a wide variety of household furniture.

Summary of the invention

            In order to achieve at least one object, the invention provides a connector for connecting at least a first plank and second plank to one another, the connector comprising:

-      a first connector part defining a first through-opening configured for accommodating the first plank, and

-      a second connector part defining a second through-opening configured for accommodating the second plank,

wherein the first and second through-openings have a rectangular shape, and

wherein the first and second connector parts are fixed to one another via a rigid connection, and

wherein the connector comprises a first fixation device for fixing the first plank relative to the first connector part, and a second fixation device for fixing the second plank relative to the second connector part.

Advantageously, with just one or two types of versatile connectors, a wide variety of furniture can be made.
