A Method and System for Delaying Notification of a Message to a Recipient

Disclosed is a method and system for delaying notification of a message to a recipient. The recipient is explicitly notified about the message only when the recipient actively engages with a communication device of the recipient. A message could be one of a short message service (SMS), an email, an instant message, or a video chatting.

The Figure illustrates a flow chart of the steps for activating a delayed (flexible) notification of a new message to a recipient.

As illustrated in the Figure, a sender composes a message for a recipient. Based on the urgency of the message, the sender may activate delayed (flexible) notification of the message to the recipient. Once the message gets delivered, the system checks if the delayed (flexible) notification is activated. Accordingly, the system may display the notification and/or the message as soon the message is delivered to the recipient. On the other hand, if the delayed (flexible) notification is activated, the system checks if the recipient is actively engaged with a communication device of the recipient. The activities may include, but not limited to, picking up the communication device, pressing buttons, and putting it into a charges.
