Disclosed is a method and system for capturing high-quality facial images of users. In accordance with the method and system, users are not actually instructed to look at cameras installed at one or more locations. High quality facial images of users are captured by making the users to look at the attractions that are arranged close to the installed cameras.

The method and system utilizes face recognition techniques to passively capture facial images of users. Images are captured using one or more means such as, for example, high resolution cameras, which are well established and

generally accepted in public spaces and places of businesses. The captured facial images are stored in memory and are used for further purposes such as for example, greeting the users upon next visit.

In accordance with the method and system, as shown in the figure, users are displayed with attractions arranged close to the cameras, causing them to look at collocated cameras.

Attractions displayed to the users can be such as, but not limited to, videos with attractive men or women greeting users, babies laughing and throwing balls. Subsequently, cameras emit Infrared (IR) light on to the users and identify the same IR reflected by the cornea of the users, producing a large signal which causes facial images to be captured passively.
