Manually measuring a complicated or precise cut (e.g., an angle during construction) is prone to error. For example, it can be difficult and inconvenient to measure a piece of

wall by hand without some kind of template or having multiple people assist. Even with the correct measurements, a person must manually transfer the measurements to the material, creating additional opportunities for error.

A method is needed to solve the issue of inconsistencies inherent in manual

measurement .

The novel contribution is a method and device to create a path for a computer controlled cutting tool using image processing techniques. The method is to use an image of the desired area to determine the correct dimensions, and then translate these measurements into a path that can be downloaded into a computer-controlled tool such as a laser cutting device or robotic tool.
