Cognitive Mobile Assistant for Reaching Destination in Unknown City

A common man (hence forth referenced as "he" or "traveller" or "end user" interchangeably for explanation purposes) hailing from rural country side lands up in an unknown city and wants to reach his relative's house or some government/company office where he has some work as depicted in Figure 1:

Most likely, he owns a basic mobile phone and uses it mainly for conversational purposes. Usually, rural folks from country side can't afford or may not be interested in having a smart phone. Even if he has the capacity or interested in owning a smart phone, he may not be tech savvy enough to use Global Position System (GPS) tracking or location maps effectively to reach the destination in an unknown city (see Figure 2). All he carries along with him is destination address and/or relative's contact number.

After getting down at an inter city bus stand or train station, to reach the intended destination within the city that common man usually chooses one of the following mechanisms:

Accompany a person who is familiar with the city so he (or she) can assist the traveller in reaching the destination correctly and safely. But to have an additional person or relative receiving the traveller upon disembarking is extremely rare these days.

The traveller can ring up his relative or some one who he is aware within the city

to find out how to reach the intended destination. Based on travel guidance received he will try the suggested options. This kind of mechanism is time consuming and requires lot of effort and patience since he may end up calling his relative or known person many times.

He may approach the bus or train station help desk for commuting directions within the city. Usually help desk folks provide only high level guidance and nitty gritty of adopting it are left to the traveller.

If none of the above are possible, the traveller will ask near by anonymous folks for some guidance in understanding where the destination is and how to reach there. There is no guarantee that the information provided by them is reliable as they bear no responsibility.

As we see, the common man cannot reach destination by public transport or other modes of transport without proper guidance. Further, even if the traveller is tech savvy and can afford a smart phone then he can use Location maps / GPS tracking but it would still be difficult to align / adopt those facilities with the mode of transport he is planning to use or using.

So what we need is a continuous and realtime guidance in the form of a virtual person to ensure that the common man or traveller feels safe and is proceeding in the right direction to reach destination within an unknown city. The proposed solution is unique and tries to address the travel hurdles faced by common folks squarely, especially:
