A Method and System for Dynamically Switching Advertisements upon Resizing of a Viewport

Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for dynamically changing a size and a position of an advertisement in a webpage subsequent to resizing of a viewport displaying the webpage.  For instance, a larger advertisement is replaced by a smaller advertisement when the size of the viewport decreases.  The method and system enhances user experience by setting the size of an advertisement in accordance with the size of the viewport.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for dynamically changing an advertisement size and an advertisement position in a webpage subsequent to resizing of a user’s viewport displaying the webpage.

The method and system includes identifying a current size of the user’s viewport.  In an instance, the current size of the user’s viewport is identified before rendering of the webpage.  The current size can be identified by identifying a width and a height of a body element of the webpage.  For example, JavaScript* can be used for identifying the width and the height of the body element.

Thereafter, the method and system dynamically determines the advertisement size and the advertisement position using the current size of the user’s viewport.  For instance, if the width of the user’s viewport is greater than 1360 pixels, the advertisement can be displayed on a right rail of the webpage and the advertisement size can be 160X600 as shown below in Fig. 1 below.
