Technical Field of the Disclosure
 The disclosure relates to the art of applying material onto surfaces, such as for example, spraying or coating a surface with a coating material. More particularly, the disclosure relates to arrangements and methods for controlling a material application device, for example, a manual spray gun, and a material application system.
 Powder coating material such as powder paint is commonly applied to an object by spraying the powder coating material. Typically, a spray gun or material application device is used, and spray guns may be manually held and operated or automatic spray guns and robotic guns may be used that are controlled electronically. Spray technologies include for example electrostatic, non-electrostatic and tribo-electric. Within a production facility, many different types and colors of powder coating material may be used.
Summary of the Disclosure
 The present disclosure presents a number of inventive concepts for both apparatus and methods relating to controlling a material application device, with the apparatus and methods in some embodiments including a display device or apparatus that is disposed on the material application device. A first inventive concept of the disclosure presented herein provides a display on a material application device that presents information to the operator about choices available to the operator to select a color of a powder coating material to be used in a coating material operation. In an embodiment, a display is disposed on a material application device and may present information regarding color choices for a coating operation. Additional embodiments are presented herein.
 Another inventive concept presented in this disclosure provides a display that may include an input by which an operator may manually select a display mode for the display, so that in response to an operator action, information is presented to the operator that is a function of the selected display mode in which the selected display mode is a color select mode. In an embodiment, the input may be realized in the form of a manually actuated switch or other input or control function that is on the display. Additional embodiments are presented herein.
 Another inventive concept presented in this disclosure provides a display and control function for a material application device such that an operator action is enabled to select a color of coating material. In an embodiment, a manually actuated device may be associated with the material application device so that the operator may make a selection and view and confirm the choices and selection made on the display.
