Abstract

Conventionally field windings of a salient pole synchronous machine are concentrated type where one coil is circulating one field pole arm and every field pole is having their own coil These field coils of high power salient pole synchronous machines are made of copper bars that are welded together at each four corners to form spiral like coil circulating pole arm The novel open structure of rotor field winding proposed here is a kind of distributed layer type field winding It can be made of copper sheet metal by cutting Z shaped pieces that are welded together to form conductor or by cutting whole conductor directly from copper sheet metal without welding Z shaped pieces together Assembly method of field winding is different in the novel open structure of rotor field winding than in a conventional field winding structure of high power salient pole synchronous machine By using the novel open structure of rotor field winding assembly of field winding can be easier and amount of needed welding of copper bars is much fewer than when conventional field winding structure is used NOVEL FIELD WINDING DISTRIBUTED FIELD WINDING SALIENT POLE COPPER SHEET METAL COOLING

TECHNICAL FIELD

New design of a rotor field winding structure of an electrical salient pole synchronous machine having open field winding made of flat copper bars or plates made of copper sheet metal.

BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE AND TECHNICAL PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED

The purpose of the novel open structure of the rotor field winding is to maximize ratio of active parts to the volume of rotor. The novel open field winding structure of rotor enables high efficiency and higher power density than conventional concentrated field winding structure of a high power salient pole synchronous machine. The new field winding structure is the best suitable for high pole number salient pole synchronous machine.

Conventionally field winding structure of the high power salient pole synchronous machine is made of copper bars that are joined by welding to form spiral like coil of conductor circulating pole arm of a field winding pole. Since every four corners have to be welded and whole winding handled as one piece in order to get one conducting coil around pole arm it is laborious and cumbersome assembly phase. Conventional salient pole rotor winding structure needs also coil supports made of aluminium to restrict coil to move along pole arm.

The novel open structure of rotor field winding has less parts to be welded together than conventional one. The novel open structure of rotor field winding can be made layer by layer making assembly of the rotor field winding easier than conventional one. Conventional aluminium field coil supports are not needed.

SUMMARY
