Abstract

Some surgeons have indicated that selectively adjusting an endocutter knife speed prior to firing would be beneficial For example a surgeon may set a fast firing speed on vessels and a slow firing speed on thick tissue There are various potential methods for enabling a selectively enabled knife speed with buttons switches and toggles on the exterior of an endocutter device This disclosure allows for an increased ability to custom set device performance on a procedure by procedure basis

Adjustable Knife Speed for Endocutter Firing

SUMMARY

Some surgeons have indicated that selectively adjusting an endocutter knife speed prior to firing would be beneficial. For example, a surgeon may set a "fast firing" speed on vessels and a "slow firing" speed on thick tissue. There are various potential methods for enabling a selectively-enabled knife speed with buttons, switches, and toggles on the exterior of an endocutter device. This disclosure allows for an increased ability to custom-set device performance on a procedure-by-procedure basis.

DESCRIPTION

The ability to set the firing speed prior to transection (i.e. "fast firing" or "slow firing") could be enabled with some of the concepts shown below. Additionally, a "Smart Firing Mode" algorithm in which the Shaft updates Knife speed in real-time based on a feedback loop (such as motor current draw) could be enabled with one of the buttons shown below.

Various concepts shown below include:

1) Utilization of existing buttons on an endocutter Handle to set Knife firing speed

2) Rotary knob component on side of endocutter device

3) Linear sliding indicator on side of endocutter device
