1 THE IDEA

AR (Augmented Reality) is a booming technology to visualize a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.

Combining robot application with AR enables the robot trajectory visualization for easy robot programing and status monitoring. To make it working, one key step is to determine the coordinate system relationship between robot and AR device (e.g. camera, glass).

Traditional way is to paste a pattern board on robot, from which the AR device can calculation the coordinate relationship. However, it is not easy to paste the pattern precisely on robot base coordinates. In addition, multiple pattern boards are needed while the AR involving multiple robots or observing from different vision angles.

This invention proposes an easy robot coordinates determination for AR by using touch screen on mobile devices such as tablets and phones.

2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

As illustrated in Figure 1, the proposed system is composed of robots, AR Device(s), and touch screen(s).
