Abstract

We proposed a mobile notification mechanism to prioritize and aggregate mobile notifications based on concepts and the status of user. It includes the following: 1. To eliminate redundancy of notifications, display mobile notification based on concepts with dynamic grouping feedback from user, user data, and background knowledge. 2. Correlate the display size of the concepts with their ranking, so it will be easier for user to find and touch the more important one. 3. Sort concepts based on user feedback instead of message count or time stamp only, so important messages will be more likely to be found. It can save user lots of time to deal with similar mobile notifications in their daily life.

As a mobile device user, when lots of notification coming, user must spend lots of time to find the key information from tens of messages. The duplication between similar notification from app(s) and lack of intuitive message aggregation reduced productivity and made user annoyed.

We provide a new mobile notification mechanism includes the following :

The example above is to illustrate the layout difference when at 3 pm and 7pm. The difference between the 2 pictures is the time frame. They have the same notification set.

In this example, we use circles with different color and size to represent each concept. The higher the priority, the bigger the

circles. So at 3pm, "Work" is much more important to the user. But when at 7pm, "Family" is what the user want to care first.

Considering the user status from Status Matching Moduleand a group of concepts from Concept Matching Module, Ranking Module will generate the weighted concepts for output on the User Interface.

Each time user modifies the bubbles or open a specific notification , the behavior will be viewed as feedback by the Interaction

To correctly send the feedback, Behavior Translation Moduleis designed to recognize the behavior information and send it to either Ranking Managementor Concept Management.

The Ranking Managementmodule manages the logic of the priority decision when receiving feedback from users.
