Abstract

The location obtained by mobile cellular positioning often has a considerable deviation from the real one. In this context, this method provides an approach to improve the positioning accuracy of mobile cellular networks. The method consists of two stages. In the first stage, it analyzes the movement pattern periodically from all previous positioning data. The movement pattern including several characteristics such as geographic coordination, direction, speed, acceleration etc. In the second stage, it improves the cellular network positioning data by matching the movement patterns to the historical route patterns. When the positioning data match successfully, the cellular network data accuracy can be improved using correction algorithms.

With the development of mobile and cellular technology, location based services are widely penetrated into people's life and various industries such as transportation, medical rescue, combating crime, etc.

Currently, location based services usually bases on two kinds of technologies for positioning. One is global position system (GPS), which calculates the location by receiving satellites' signals. The other is cellular network, which calculates the location by mobile cellular network provided by mobile communication service provider. GPS is more accurate but the satellite signals are often affected by cloud, rain, and other weather conditions. Cellular positioning has better availability but less accuracy.

In a situation that GPS module on the device cannot work because the satellite signals are affected by the weather or the device is not installed with a GPS module, the device can only obtain cellular positioning location which is not accurate.

Sometimes, the accuracy of cellular positioning is too low to meet the user requirements in some business fields. The traditional methods try to improve the positioning accuracy by improving the positioning algorithms. However, the improvement could be trivial because of the limitation of the network environment and devices.

In contract to traditional methods, this invention provides a method to improve the positioning accuracy of the cellular network based on the historical pattern matching.
