Abstract

This article provides a system and method to define the video conference solution powered by analytical application that leverages the users location to detect whether the user is allowed to participate in the the video conference or a 1x1 call. The benefit of the solution is that it addresses the shortfalls of the existing and traditional video conference deployment and security approach outlined so far. The article defines determining and applying security policy on the solution by looking at the geo-location, eco-system, conference rooms, home vs office and applying these policy based rules.

In today's era, real-time communication has become the need of the hour especially when organizations have global reach and presence across many different countries and continents. Organizations require to be able to get their employees interact not only with each other but also provide a way to reach out to clients, partners, using the real time video conferencing systems in order to provide better productivity and customer satisfaction. The video conferencing system provides the feeling of presence and face to face meeting even while working remotely.

Audio and video conferencing has been made possible due to an increase in the availability of network bandwidth. The technology has played his own part such that there have been many advancements made in the area of highly complex video and audio codecs such as H.264 that provides not only the high quality video but also the better compression ratio. With the introduction of SVC - Scalable Video Coding, new advancements have been made to allow users to join video conference from any device and any place , end point consists not only a single resolution, but multiple layers of video streams.

Video conference being the highly interactive and real time communication allows the business to connect its employees, clients, customers, external users, in the context of the business, personal identity. Video conference and 1x1 calling is based on the standards based real time communication system. The video solution in itself is built over end to end secured solution that requires authenticated access, single sign on as an additional security, encrypted traffic using SSL/TLS channel for doing a SIP signalling , encrypted media traffic that allows security on the wire and insulate the system from man in the middle attack. However the availability of the video over devices and any location make it a socially, location un-secure. Hence the need to create a solution that also provides the capability for conferencing solution to be able to control the users location and policy based hosting or joining the conference. The solution outlined here provides the novel way of fully end to end secured video conference.
