Method and system for auto-straightening in pullout display


Pull out or rollable display devices are having many advantages. User can increase the dimension of the display by applying pull force on the display. Similar way, user can also decrease the dimension of the display by applying push force.

In Pull-out display device, the flexible thin paper display are rolled in a central axis, and upon pulling the display user can increase the dimension of the display area. Once the paper display is rolled, then there is a chance of permanent deformation in the display, and when it pulled out then the display area may not be straight enough to work on. Following diagram (Figure 1) talks about how the display area will show when it is pulled out. If the display area is not straight then user will have problem to work with the device.

Software proposes a method and system by which

1. One or more EAP (Electroactive Polymers) strips are to be installed in the backside of the pullout display screen.

2. One or more sensor installed in the display area will calculate the alignment of the display with compare to the two edges of the exposed display area.

3. If any misalignment is found, then software installed in the device will calculate the amount of misalignment and according will calculate the required electric field to counter the amount of misalignment.

4. Software will also identify the location of misalignment and accordingly appropriate electric field will be applied.

5. EAP strips will bend and according will counter the misalignment of the display, and user can work with the display without any difficulty.

Following diagram (Figure 2) talks about a pullout display. Multiple EAP strips are fixed at the backside of the pullout display. Sensor installed in two edges (AA and CC) of the display will compare the alignment of the display. In ideal condition, both extrapolated alignment line should be parallel and overlapping with each other (AB, CB). If there is any misalignment in the extrapolated lines, then software installed in the device will consider the display is bent.
